EMR Interoperability for Physician Outreach Launched at HIMSS 2006

Regardless of EMR systems in place, hospitals can deliver electronic results & clinical information to physician offices to win loyalty and secure revenue, while establishing the interoperability foundation for RHIOs.

Irvine, CA, February 21, 2006 - Accenx Technologies, Inc., a leading integration solutions company and trusted partner in healthcare, unveiled its latest solution, EMR Interoperability for Physician Outreach with RyTRAK HIE, at the HIMSS 2006 Annual Conference and Exhibition in San Diego, CA, February 12th-16th. On the floor, amongst the best and latest in healthcare information technology innovation, Accenx introduced its tool for physician outreach or alignment programs to secure and maintain physician loyalty.

Implementing EMRs ranked among the top priorities of conference attendees according to the HIMSS 2006 survey. As more physician offices consider and implement EMR systems, the challenge hospitals are now facing is integrating with them. When physicians choose vendor solutions that differ from the hospital's clinical applications, without an integration option available, the hospital risks losing that physician and the referral revenue they represent.

Baystate Health, in Springfield, MA, with 600+ physician offices within its network, faced a similar situation using Cerner applications in its clinical departments. If a physician office purchased Cerner's PowerChart Office EMR system, they had full access to all Cerner electronic records produced in the clinical applications within the hospital. However if a physician office had already chosen another EMR vendor solution, the only method BH could offer for sharing results and reports was by fax, mail or courier. With other national reference lab options available to them, physicians who had made the investment in an EMR expected to experience the full value and would send patients to a facility with services that offered that electronic resulting capability. Unable to risk the serious impact on revenue losing physicians would cause, Baystate formed an initiative to find a solution and purchased Accenx's EMR Interoperability with RyTRAK HIE as a result.

Wayne LaBranche, Integration Architect, Baystate Health, frequently met with various health systems and hospital CIO's and IS Directors who visited the Accenx booth sharing Baystate's experience and success with the EMR Interoperability solution.

"This is a great alignment with physician offices. With RyTRAK HIE we can give our physician's options and offer connectivity with all EMR vendors. It doesn't have to be 'do it our way or no way'. Now physicians are able to make their EMR more useful for patient care and experience the full ROI of their investment," explains Wayne LaBranche, Integration Architect, Baystate Health.

Accenx's EMR Interoperability solution provides hospitals with the technology to deliver all types of electronic clinical results to physician office EMR systems and offers to manage the integration process, including support and maintenance for each physician office.

The key benefit for hospitals is having a service to offer to referring physicians that secures loyalty and the revenue they represent, while alleviating the burden on IT staff resources to manage and execute the service, so they can remain focused on the unending internal priorities for the hospital. Other benefits include simple deployment, HIPPA compliant, secure encrypted information exchange, no VPN required and a low cost alternative to traditional integration options.

"Interoperability is key to healthcare and creating more efficient ways to provide patient care and safety," explains Mike Connors, VP Business Development, Accenx Technologies. "Our EMR Interoperability for Physician Outreach solution establishes interoperability between hospitals and physician offices so electronic clinical information can be shared seamlessly, bettering the continuity of care and establishing the foundation for RHIOs."

Regional Health Information Organizations were one of the top buzz words at HIMSS this year, yet most are in the initial discussion phase across the nation. Another benefit of the EMR Interoperability solution sites like Baystate Health seek to make use of is the interoperability foundation which can serve as the base for future RHIOs and Health Data Exchange Networks.
